The list is huge, you've got all your rods, cloths, sunglasses, fly lines, socks and so on. One of the most important and often overlooked item is your flies. Let's take a few mins to get some real information on what flies you need to have in the box for Louisiana fly fishing.
Umpqua's Captain Gregg is a great fly for a lot of situations fishing redfish in Louisiana. Named after the master himself and longtime mentor of mine this fly will produce if you put it in the right spot. Ep's Louisiana Crab 2/0 in all colors rooter Is probably my favorite. The Plantation Crab , Brian of mad river outfitters has been tying this fly for awhile and we've had great success with it in numerous different scenarios. The Sandbar Mullet is a great fly for bull red fish and black drum in Louisiana. It a lot of body that moves a ton of water help the fish see it good in dingy water. Giving you some awesome shallow water eats is what this fly does. Rio's Hopedale Crab In any color this fly catches everything that swims in Louisiana. Basically any 1/0 or 2/0 hook with med eyes and some feathers will catch redfish in southern Louisiana. So don't be scared to tie some of your own patterns. Crab , shrimp and mullet patterns are a goto for redfish flies. Tan, Black, olive, purple, chartreuse and yellow are all great colors to try as well. I hope this helps get that fly box full.
